Jerusalem, Bethlehem & Palestine

In 2014 I visited the Middle East and spent some time traveling through Jerusalem and then Bethlehem in Palestine. In Jerusalem we had lunch at the Everest Kafeteria where I had some of the best shawarma I have ever tasted. Following lunch, we explored the alleyways of the Via Dolorosa which contains the 14 stations of the cross, the events that led up to Jesus’ cruxifixction. At the end of the Via Dolorosa is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the first possible site of Jesus’ burial place. The Church had multiple levels that each contained artwork and relics from different time periods in history. In the square outside the Holy Sepulchre there are also other worship sites and churches that you can visit. Lastly, we visited the Garden Tomb of Jesus and the second possible location of Golgotha or Skull Hill where Jesus was crucified. The journey through Palestine was humbling. I never thought I would have the opportunity to visit places I only read about in the bible and explore the streets that Jesus and his disciples walked on. I am so thankful for our wonderful guide, Ruth who led us through this awe inspiring place.
